Our Mission

Tru Bahamian Food Tours was founded in 2012 to offer visitors of The Bahamas truly authentic local culinary experiences and an opportunity to Eat, Drink & Discover what we are convinced is our island’s most unexplored cultural treasure: our cuisine!

We provide unique cultural experiences in a safe, sustainable, and environmentally responsible manner. Our meticulously crafted food tours feature engaging and knowledgable local guides who are eager to share the most authentic and delicious version of The Bahamas.

We are professionally certified by Food Tour Pros, The International Culinary Tourism Association, World Food Travel Association and The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism’s Bahama HOST Program.

Alanna Rodgers

Alanna is a Bahamian social entrepreneur and passionate foodie. Although born in Nassau, she has traveled to over 26 countries and developed a deep appreciation for the role that cuisine plays in a country’s unique cultural expression. Inspired and committed to sharing her own country’s culinary gifts, Alanna launched Tru Bahamian Food Tours in the Fall of 2012 on a mission to connect visitors with Nassau’s most beloved food treasures and the artisans that prepare them.

The walk from the Bahamas customs gate at the cruise shop doc to our starting point is .15 miles, or about a 4 minute walk. We begin at Bahamian Cookin' Restaurant and Bar, on Parliament Street, in Downtown, Nassau, Bahamas.

Yes, Private Group Tours are available for all experiences and typically require a minimum of 10 guests per tour or the value of 10 tickets to operate. We ask that you please visit our Private Group Tours page on the website and submit a Private Tour Request Form. A member of the team will get back to you within 24 hours with more information.

Yes – bathrooms are available throughout the tour at selected food-tasting locations. Your guide will be sure to let you know at the beginning of the tour when the bathroom breaks will occur and remind you throughout the tour as well.

In addition to a healthy appetite, we suggest you bring:

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Light clothing (Swimsuits, bathing suits and see-through coverups not permitted on the tour)
  • Sun protection
  • Bottle of water
  • Cash gratuity for your tour guide

Our tours are held rain or shine. Tour guides are equipped with ponchos in the event of rain, but arriving prepared based on the daily forecast is recommended. If severe weather (such as a hurricane) does affect the tour being operational, you will receive a refund or an e-certificate to use at another time once tours resume.

Our Bites of Nassau Food Tour begins at Bahamian Cookin’ Restaurant on Parliament Street, located in a pink strip mall. Meet your tour guide, wearing a Tru Bahamian Food Tours shirt, in front of the Bahamian Cookin’ restaurant. The tour ends at Captain’s Deck on Bay Street. Both are within a 5 minute walk of the cruise ship dock.

Our Bites of Nassau Food Tour is approximately 3 hours in duration and participants can expect to be standing or walking for the majority of the time. We cover 1.3 miles and walk at a moderate pace.

The walking route includes hills and staircases and is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible or recommended for persons with severe mobility issues.
